In my on going planning before I have the house to build my layout in I have shifted my EL focus to the Meadville - Kent subdivision. Part of the reason for this is I would really like to have a coal mine of some sort as part of my operations. Even though I like the TOFC through freight. Even though I don't believe there really was a mine on the Erie/EL in this area the industries along the tracks guide says there are coal deposits in that part of the state. So what I'm asking is if I am correct or not? Were there ever coal mines on this part of the Erie? Oil City was known for Oil, but I don't know how late they were still shipping anything by rail.
