I recently had a conversation with someone who worked for Corning Glass in Corning and he confrimed Corning was switched by NYC - and did receive raw materials in Covered hoppers. However, the CRT's blanks were made in corning and shipped by rail to westinghouse in Horseheads because the quanity was too great to go by truck. So the NYC moved the cars to the Erie interchange in corning; then to Elmira Yad, and back on the drill.
They did not receive any broken glass.
