Time to turn those calendars, folks! Happy May Day! The ELHS Calendar this month shows an almost public relations-like image of motive power at the Marion, OH engine facility. Of note are the relatively clean pair of F-units (and as one of the caption proofreaders, I will take full responsibility for the incorrect caption: The two units are not F7s, but late phase F3s - aka "F5s" - not sure how that one slipped past me!). The juxtaposed U33C makes for a nice first/second generation comparison. Of course, the EL pig trailer in the background just adds to the "EL-ness" of this image. Modelers of diesel facilities, pay special note to the sandy, grimy track detail in the foreground! The Weekend Chief calendar features an interesting view of an early EL westbound ready to leave Dearborn station behind a trio of two-tone former Erie units (note the trailing E8 has the large "ERIE LACKAWANNA" decals on it). The general "look" of the photo seems to be very muted and dull - there's a haze in the air, and the EL units are all rather grimy. The bright spots in this shot are the shiny GTW fantrip steamer and the relatively clen US Mail trailers in the background. Thoughts on these two images, anyone? - Paul The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
