That section  of East Orange is known as Ampere, probably because so 
many Westinghouse, GE and Worthington employees lived there.  The 
station was named after the neighborhood.

GE manufactured control at the plant just south of Bloomfield  Avenue 
and next to the Garden State Parkway. worthington manufactures smaller 
pumps at a plant east of the station and across the street from the 
white former bread bakery.
