This has a fascinating history, and almost as relevant to this list as the hundred year relationship between the bus company that dare not speak its name and passenger service on the DL&W (and its heirs and assigns), so we'll save it for another venue <g>.

  I was told by an older friend who knew the territory better that Susquehanna was coming off a steep grade at Swartzwood creating a problem for establishing a yard. Then there is the theory of tradition - that since Susquehanna always interchanged at Hainsburg, so why change it. In addition it did give NYS&W a longer haul.
