Of course, to paraphrase Erie President Eben Thomas, "The Erie always had 
all the capacity the DL&W and LV have ever needed to get their traffic to 
Buffalo. There was never any reason to go to the expense of two redundant 
railroads, and the extra costs to support their bonds and dividends for 
these ill-advised extensions that resulted in three weaker railroads and 
higher rates for customers."

But then, we all know, everyone hates that master of evil, Jay Gould for 
wasting all that good money to extend the DL&W to Buffalo in the first 
place. And Archie McLeod and his LV schemes as part of the "Greater Reading" 
for that matter. He ended up running that peanut stand, I think <g>.
