Furthest thing from my mind is to even THINK u'd try & make money off us ....especially after all the work u do here gratis. I just wanted to know WHY I couldn't look at the fotos. I just now had my son-in-law put a new board (or whatever) in my Dell so that I can run the damn thing faster. He explained that each message had so much more bytes that my machine had slowed down procewssing them. I guess he was right......I understood 1/2 of what he SAID but it IS faster. For those of us who were raised with 2-8-2s on the 'Bloom', and worked on Baldwin & FM diesels, the computer is a stretch. Thanks for ur help, tho.
Walter E. Smith(still struggling to understand all this & leave some memories for u all)

Mr. Smith,
It's a totally different site from the EL List Archive, but it is still free.
The DL&W Steam photos were posted to the Usenet Newsgroup
alt.binaries.pictures.rail, which I archive on a daily basis for display
through the web. It is generally known as the ABPR for short. Because Usenet
Newsgroups in their native format require specific newsgroup client browsing
software I convert the daily postings in a web format so anyone can see them
with any old web browser. The ABPR is it own stand alone site and has been
since 1998. Because managing and serving up over 570,000 ABPR photos to
internet consumes a considerable amount of resources, we accept _donations_ to
help defray the costs, but access is and always has been free to the general
public.
If you couldn't view the photos then it should have told you exactly why. The
only time the ABPR shouldn't display an index or photos is when the server
load is too high. It will plainly state that as the reason and ask that you
wait a bit and try again. Because the ABPR is a pro-bono service to the
internet at large, it is temporarily sacrificed when we experience unusually
high server traffic loads so as not exascerbate the situation.
Frankly, after all this time I am a bit disappointed that you would think I
would in any way try to take advantage of you to make money. I have hosted the
erielack list, with all of its attendant headaches, for nearly ten years as a
service to the EL community without expecting anything in return for it.
Sincerely,
J. Henry Priebe Jr.
P.S.
Correction: the Pocono 1627 photo was taken in 1951 and not 1957, the
photographer's note on the back looked like 1957 at first glance. Mike Connor
pointed that out. I have also corrected the digest text archive with the
correct date so nobody cites the wrong date as a reference.

A forlorn Pocono ready for scrap in 1951, some switchers (including camelback
0-6-0 44) and a mogul.
