I thought as I viewed this picture that the deck had been changed into a roadway. It looks like a road leads up to it on the left side with cars parked at the entrance to the bridge. There is a guard rail on one side. I don't think I'd like to drive across it with no guard on the other side. I know several O&W bridges were converted in to roadways for vehicles. Could that have been the case here? Was the conversion going on at the time this picture was taken? We also used to walk along the tracks as they ran along the Elmhurst reservoir. I remember being surprised one fishing trip when we discovered the tracks, ties and roadbed were all gone - I thought the year was 1970. But your evidence seems to indicate otherwise. It was trimmed back to just north of Rock Junction, I'm guessing to allow for trains to switchback to use the Jessup branch. - -----Original Message----- From: Mike Oravec [mailto:MOEL_@_paonline.com] Sent: Friday, October 30, 2009 12:51 PM To: EL Mail List Subject: Re: (erielack) November EL calendar pictures Does anyone one know with certainty when this northern end of the Wyoming branch was abandoned? (I'm guessing that would have been from Rock Jct north to Gravity.) The line to Gravity is still included in the employee time table (3-21-71). In the background is the skewed through-truss bridge of the Erie's former Wyoming Division, still in place and its ties looking almost like a nice walking deck! The trees are freshly-barren from the autumn season and it has the look of "chilly." This shot is personally interesting because when the ELHS had its joint convention with the ARHS in Scranton several years ago, the Sunday excursion stopped just past where this train is to allow a Steamtown excursion to fly past us. > > > The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
