Re: (erielack) The EL Hot 100...honorable mention #18

Ah, yes! I recall those articles now. Thanks for pointing that out.

I've got them in my "to-do" binder as well. Hopefully, some model maker will take them on before I get around to bashing one, not right after I finish.

Pat and List, Jim Providenza had articles in May & June 2012 RMC on kitbashing these cars from existing Athearn kits. Excellent articles, another thing on my to do list!

Unlike the SP and UP (through PFE) and the BN roads, the Santa Fe built their own mechanical reefers in the mid-1960s. The ATSF built two series of nearly identical cars, their classes Rr-87 and Rr-89, in 1965 and 1966, respectively. Visually, these cars appear to differ only in that the first series was built with a running board and the second without. If we combine the two number series (SFRC 50300 - 50694 and SFRC 50700 - 51399), we have a total of 33 that appeared in the consist sheets, which would put this car type somewhere in the 90s in the Hot 100.

Systemwide, but mainly hauling fruits and vegetables from California to any grocery distributor in the northeast.

Model...
None, unfortunately. This would be a good model as a counterpoint to all the PC&F-built BNFE, SPFE, UPFE reefers running around the system.
