List...
As I was running through the Hot 100, some of you might have been waiting and wondering where the Buffalo Creek boxcar fleet might have fit in. Buffalo Creek 40' box cars seemed to be everywhere on the EL back in the day, at least on lines east of Buffalo. As it turns out, the lack of BCK boxcars in the Hot 100 was a consequence of how I set up the list. The BCK fleet was roughly evenly divided between cars built by Pullman-Standard and cars built by ACF, with two large orders for each builder, but in the Equipment Register they were broken up into different groups. As a result, none of the groups of BCK boxcars were represented by enough cars (i.e. 30 or more) to appear by themselves in the Hot 100. However, upon combining groups, they do. The ACF-built cars were listed under the number series 1502 - 1999 and 2502 - 2999, which had 35 examples when grouped together, enough to place this freight car in the 82 - 86 range in the Hot 100. If we also consider ACF-built cars that were upgraded and reclassified XF, in the number series 3519 - 3919 and 4500 - 4998, that number swells to 43 examples, which would place this car in the 64 - 67 range. The XF cars were visually identical, except had their running boards removed and the large XF-Food Loading Only lettering applied.
