The Gulf, Mobile & Ohio was another road that favored freight cars built by Pullman-Standard, and they fielded many classes of similar PS-1 boxcars. The GM&O had at least four groups of 50' PS-1s that had 10' door openings, built in the 1969-1971 time frame. The GM&O would merge with the Illinois Central in 1972. The cars in question were found in the number series 55000 - 55299, 55300 - 55599, 56500 - 56699, and 56700 - 56999, of which 38 examples were found in the EL consist sheets. This number of cars would put it in the 75-78 range in the EL Hot 100.

Most of these cars were in service hauling paper/pulp from southern United States points to companies such as President Container Corp. in Moonachie, NJ, or Packaging Corp. of America in Rittman, Ohio. One large group of cars in the 567xx series evidently was in assigned service from Douglas & Lomason in Columbus, Nebraska, to the Ford Motor Company assembly plant in Mahwah, New Jersey. Douglas & Lomason manufactured automobile seats and interior trim parts and supplied them to Ford Motor Company.
Model...
None yet. Kadee makes four GM&O 50' boxcar models, but none of the variety discussed here. However, Kadee has recently started making a 50' PS-1 with a 10' door opening and standard draft gear, so perhaps the GM&O car will be produced in the future. Intermountain also makes a 50' PS-1 boxcar, but the door opening may not be wide enough.
