Re: (erielack) The EL Hot 100...honorable mention #4

Pat and list, Another option is the same car from the Soo Line Historical Society. The car was designed by Dennis Storzek of Accurail. The car lacks the stand off details of the Fox Valley car, but the doors are separately applied detail which allows for a variety of door options.

List...

Many roads had a "signature" freight car. For the Soo Line, that would probably be the series of 50' exterior-post plug door boxcars built at their North Fond Du Lac shops. This popular freight car was broken into several smaller lots depending on interior equipment. Some were classified as 'XM' and some as 'XL'. Some had special grain doors built into the plug doors. Some had Freightmaster end of car cushioning. All looked nearly identical, although some were painted in the white scheme with a red door and others were in freight car brown. The main groups were in 15600 - 16826, 17100 - 17498, and 17850 - 19171. Altogether, the consist sheets have 50 examples, which would be good enough for 52 in the Hot 100.

Locations...
These cars could be found hauling anything from canned goods and beer to can stock to plywood and paper, anywhere along the EL.

Model...
Fox Valley Models produced a credible model of this freight car a few years ago. It is currently out of production.
