Re:Re: (erielack) Gallo Wine Traffic

In consigning the wine to themselves, Gallo retained ownership and thus could maintain quality control if there was damage.

The Gallo Wine traffic was interesting in that the consignee was the shipper (E. & J. Gallo Winery) and not the receiver, so we don't really know who was accepting these cars on the receiving end. We only know the location. Cars consigned to Gallo Wine were found going to the following locations...
Elizabeth, NJ
Hoboken, NJ
East Farmingdale, NY
Farmingdale, NY
Long Island City, NY
New York, NY

Akron, OH
Girard, OH
North Randall, OH

...and a few cars were consigned to Wine Merchants in Buffalo, NY, but we don't know if those cars might have been loaded from another California winery.

Gentlemen-

During the late 1960;s I worked for Dorchester, Inc. a liquor and wine distributor in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey on the New Jersey & New York branch. I don't know what brand of wine it was but we would get a car full of California wines like every two weeks. I'm pretty sure we had Gallo as one of our brands that we distributed. Maybe that's where those cars were headed.
