A surprise high school graduation gift of a Lehigh Valley brakeman's lantern
elven years ago was the seed of my slowly growing lantern collection. The
original LV one has since been joined by an NYO&W, two DL&Ws, and a newly
made one, in addition to a LV caboose lantern.
I take great pleasure in admiring them, wondering who used them, how many
miles they must have traveled and where, and lighting them at night during
the warm evenings.
I have attached photos of my two DL&W ones for general interest and also to
learn a bit more about them.
Any guesses to age or rarity? Am I correct in thinking the DL&W one with
the raised lettering is much older?
The one with the frosted globe is makrked with a four digit serial number,
could this a DL&W inventory number or a manufacturer number?
Was there a particular manufactuer the DL&W purchased from?
