To add emphasis to the "rollercoaster" nature of the NY&GL, here are a few
shots from my collection:

The 3603 shot coming off the Peckman Creek bridge (partially hidden in the
trees) is of what is either NY-98 or SF-100 heading east, and the train is
beginning to bite into the stiff grade climbing up to Great Notch. All while
on a big curve! Rich Campana collection photo.

The 1246 shot shows a fun little thing: The train (one of the vaunted "Port
Morris Turns") is still climbing up the grade to Great Notch (behind the
photographer) while going through a crossover - how all eastbounds usually
proceeded. Look at the trailing freight cars dropping down around the turn!

The 3660 shot shows westbount CS-9 descending the sharp hill just east of
West Arlington station through the big "Arlington cut". There was a similar
hill on the other side of this cut, but with a longer, shallower grade.

Lastly, the 3621 shot showing NY-98 rolling down the hill past the Glen
Ridge station (note: It's up for sale by bid, minimum bid is $150K!). Note
the train behind it climbs upgrade, then levels off a bit, and starts to
climb yet again. Joy! :) Curt Carlough photo.
