Because of its visual proximity to NJT action on and from former DLW/Erie
lines, let me just make a quick FYI post re Snake Hill (Laurel Hill) in
Secaucus. Thanks to Paul Tup for a green light a week ago that this spot was
still accessible. My son and I did the (pretty easy) climb last Wed, a
steamy air-polluted day that was absolutely horrible for photography. The
top of Snake Hill is a great vantage point from which to view Corridor
traffic, which here includes NJDirect service off former DLW lines, and,
with some limitations, movements on the former Boonton/Erie lines on the
ground level of Secaucus Junction.

Old internet postings speak of the trail starting under the Turnpike bridge.
These guidelines do not work now. The Lautenberg Station changed the
configuration of the land, especially by the needed re-internment of
thousands of graves (from the old county hospital there) discovered during
construction.

FYI, it is an easy hike up by using NJ Turnpike 15X, going left onto New
County Road, and then pulling into a parking area on the left (Photo A) just
as the road turns right to enter Laurel Hill Park. Photo sequence A to D
will lead one to the edge of a quarry where a trail follows the edge around
to the LEFT (there is one overgrown 10' stretch where care is needed) and
then there is a pretty obvious trail upward. When you get up to a chainlink
fence, climb up to the LEFT for the view down on the Lautenberg Station. We
were there from 1-2:30 PM on a weekday; the action was just about nonstop --
with an interesting perspective.

I don't want to push the limits of List topics and queries, but I do wonder
about the combined consist in the NJT train off the old Erie. It was heading
east around 1 PM.
