The ELHS has just added two books to our online store and the Flying Saucer.
Trackside Along The Erie Railroad and its Connections with Jim
Kostibos published by Morning Sun Books
$54.00 Retail; $47.00 ELHS members
Lackawanna Railroad Arranged Services booklet: Freight Train Schedules
and Classifications, dated September 26, 1954 exclusively from the ELHS
$15.00 Retails; $12.00 ELHS members
The is a reproduction of an original document that Tom Schmieder was
kind enough to allow the ELHS to reproduce. The 62 page booklet
contains details on the Lackawanna's freight and passenger train
service. It not only includes times at major stops but connection with
other railroads, blocking details, and cargo carried by specific
trains. For passenger enthusiast, the book contains details on sleeping
and RPO cars in passenger consists, as well as descriptions of dining
cars, buffet-lounge cars, baggage-mail cars and milk cars. As Tom
Schmieder noted in his July 3, 2009 post - "This appears to be the
playbook used by Superintendents, Trainmasters, Chief Train Dispatchers,
General Yardmasters, Conductors and other employees to assemble and
forward equipment and trains in an efficient manner. "
The Lackawanna Railroad Arranged Services booklet is a must have for
historians and modelers with operations in mind. The ELHS would like to
thank Tom Schmieder for making the reproduction of this book possible.
Both books as well as the DL&W 40' Route of Phoebe Snow boxcars are
available online at http://www.erielackhs.org and through the next
Flying Saucer printed with the Extra Board.
Make the date: ELHS Annual Meeting - Oct 9-11 Owego, NY Treadway Inn.
