Recently there was some list discussion of the Erie at
Newburgh, NY. A week ago, Rich Taylor and I arrived at the
dock at Newburgh, and had just enough free time to run up
to the site of the Erie's waterside yard. Here are some
photos of what's still there.
Newburgh1:Looking north across Washington St, switch frogs
are still visible in the pavement.
Newburgh2: A crane still stands in the former team yard.
Newburgh3: One track still has its bumper.
Newburgh4: Looking south, the Erie Newburgh branch is the
track on the left, with the Conrail/CSXT connecting track
going off to the right.
Newburgh5: Looking north, the CSXT connecting track is on
the left, and the Erie track leading down to the water on
Newburgh6: The foundation for a toolhouse (according to a
1913 Sanborn map)
Newburgh7: We couldn't tell what this was in the past, but
the Sanborn map's track arrangement suggests possibly a
track scale was located here.
