Well, we haven't seen any news on the 2008 ELHS Convention yet, but decided
to post a couple of photos of the train ride on Saturday.
The ELHS Special departed the former AC&Y's Brittain Road Yard promptly at
0830 with two W&LE locomotives, two former NKP heavyweight coaches and a
caboose, and shoved east to ACY Jct. at Mogadore where we entered the former W&LE
(the OLD Wheeling) trackage to Kent and through the connection onto the
former EL main line where we proceeded to Ravenna.
After a short shoving movement back to the runaround track near Oakwood
Street, the engines ran around the train and we returned to Kent for lunch at the
Pufferbelly Restaurant, maintaining a "healthy pace" on the welded rail
between Brady Lake and Kent Yard. After the lunch stop, we continued to the W&LE
Interchange and back to the AC&Y terminal.
The weather was perfect and the turnout was great. Special appreciation to
the convention staff and the W&LE management for setting up and permitting
this trip. As MJC and I discussed, the AC&Y trackage from Brittain Road to ACY
Jct. at Mogadore was never a passenger route, so some rare mileage was
Two photos attached: One at Brittain Road as train was being loaded in the
AM and the other one as the train paused for the lunch stop at Kent.
Schedule was maintained all the way, we were right on time for lunch and we arrived
back at Akron on the advertised.
Kudos to the convention staff for a great weekend.
