I really don't know the answers to these questions off hand. My go-to guys
were Tom Blake, BCK Union President and Tom died a couple of years ago. The
other guy was Matt Wronski who worked on the LV and BCK in these yards, but
Matt is suffering from two strokes and is unable to answer.
I've attached three photos I took fom 1979/80 and you really don't see many
covered hoppers. Most are boxcars for shipping. Going back to EL (prior to
1976), covered hoppers were pretty rare as I recall. It always seemed to be
mostly boxcars with grain doors.
There are lots of elevators and they've changed owners and names many times
over the years. My emphasis has always been pre-merger.
