I rode domes into Hoboken on a private car special in 1992, I'm not sure of the date but it was in the 1990's. We parked where the light rail station is today. Also the Baltimore and Ohio had low domes that ran under the Pennsylvania Railroad wires everyday into Washington Union Terminal in DC. I also rode a Former Union Pacific dome owned by Susquehanna to Scranton. Through Factoryville tunnel. I will try to post a picture of the low B&O dome from a time table of the period. I think the issue was the catenary between Hoboken and Dover. I know that
it's been proven that domes can run under the catenary safely in the 1980s,
but perhaps the concern about catenary in those years precluded the use of a
dome?
