"Aurora-OH-008.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1300x870 (24bit)

Last weekend, while visiting a son in college, I took the opportunity to
explore one small section of the remains of the Erie Youngstown to Cleveland
line.

In Aurora, there is a beautifully maintained station just off State Highway
82. The grounds and the station itself are immaculate. The only unfortunate
aspect is that there is no hint of the station's Erie heritage.

About 15 miles east of Aurora is the town of Garretsville. Here I found an
old bridge abutment, again on Highway 82. The abutment survives only on the
south side of the highway and a hike/bike trail begins at this point. Along
the trail, again there is no clue to be found about Erie heritage. Even the
trail maps have nothing to say about this.

It is interesting to compare this versus the Morris Canal in New Jersey
where virtually every road crossing has a sign letting the public know of
what once was.
