"EL_Layout_022.jpg" - image/pjpeg, 1033x744 (24bit)

I know others have posted images of their layouts in the past, and Paul is giving us some updates on his progress. Well here's a visit to my EL layout, I apologize for the lack of scenery and finer details. It does not depict any exact locations or time period of our favorite railroad, and Its really been "On hold" as far as improvements for quite some time. But its a fun getaway when I get a chance to operate it! I operate 95% EL most of the time but a steam engine could show up or even and O&W freight if you hang out trackside long enough. :)
So lets take step back down memory lane to the 1970's somewhere along the Erie Lackawanna and see what we find... We start out by catching a westbound freight with SD-45 3616 leading a mixed lash up, damn railfan got in my photo! Stopping by the east end engine house we find C-424 2410 and SD-45 3626 and some EMD and Alco switchers and engine 453 is working the yard here, but it looks pretty quiet so let’s head back to the mainline. We are lucky to catch GP-35 2562 leading a U-25-B on a westbound past a very busy west end yard with a rare semaphore on the eastbound side. Next we see F-7 7094 with a GP-35 on an eastbound working its way through an interlocking with a former DL&W tower. We then catch a glimpse of NYS&W GP-18 1804 dropping off some interchange for the EL and grab a quick photo. Heading back to the mainline we catch another eastbound with SD-45 3613 passing that neat DL&W tower, we decide to chase this train and soon catch it
passing through a nearby town, check out that classic “Woody” in the station parking lot, hey its doing a great job of getting us around that layout for photos! LOL
As we head out of town after lunch we grab a shot of yet another eastbound with SD-45-2 3672 and a U-boat working hard upgrade high above us on a massive stone viaduct! We chase this slow moving freight and catch a meet with a westbound and C-424 2408 as trailing unit. A bit later we grab another shot of EL GP-35 2562 on that westbound from earlier in the day as it passes through a neat truss bridge above a river.
A quick stop at the former Erie freight house finds EL 437 and some crew members getting ready to go to work. Walking into the nearby engine terminal we find EL SD-45 3607 (Now preserved in St. Louis) and GP-7 1237 at the sand house. The roundhouse is sure busy with EL GP-35 2558 and switcher 435 and some other units idling away and being worked on here. The last image we capture shows a freight train paused at a former Erie interlocking awaiting clearance to move eastbound.

Hope you enjoyed this railfanning adventure on the Erie Lackawanna in 1:87 scale, someday I may upgrade the layout and add the scenery, right now its just fun to run and provides some EL trains and operational challenges on rainy days and cold weather nights.

Todd ~
