Subject: Delaware Water Gap

Not a good day for Steamtown's CPR. Pacific #2317. The trip to the gap went very well, DL. Alco's 2461 and 3643 lead her out of Scranton to Tobyhanna, Where the diesel were uncoupled and proceeded to Slateford Jct. on their own. CPR. 2317 than took the train singlehanded to the Delaware Water Gap. All went well to the Point of Gap, where upon entering a right hand curve, the outside welded rail turned over derailing the Locomotive tender, and the first three coaches!

There was three coaches lead by DL Alco C-636 #3642 dispatched from Scranton to pick up the remaining coaches still on the tracks and the hapless riders. In the mean time, DL C-424 # 2461, and M-636 #3643 coupled on to CPR. #2317 and proceeded to drag it and the derailed coaches back on to good track with the help of re railers and wooden chocks and such.

By that time it was getting on to twilight, so we decided to chase the rescue train back. So that's the story so far, The DL. and NPS. will be out late tonight!
