List,

I knew I saw an Erie bobber without a cupola, and I found it. It was one of
their earlier classes that they gave to Admiral Perry to take to the North
Pole. Attached is a copy I had in my files.

Since the Erie was one of the first (if not THE first) to use cabooses, I
suspect there were numerous versions of the bobber, as they were all built
in Erie car shops, and local initiative would take hold, along with budget
constraints. I remember seeing bobbers without cupolas in the old 6-foot
guage Hornell yards (although they shared it with LV).

It is very difficult to come up with info on these early cabooses.
