Subject: "Pocono Express" westbound from East Stroudsburg
"photo_167.jpg" - image/pjpeg, 1284x973 (24bit)

Okay, here's some images from the return trip from East Stroudsburg to Scranton, the first photo is just east of Cresco heading west on Track 2, you can see the remains of Track 1 on the left. I am surprised how much stick rail was pulled up, yet left in place along the Lackawanna. The train made a station stop at Cresco, the Barrett Township Historical Society has done a wonderful job of restoring the DL&W station into a museum. Its usually open in Jul and August on Sunday's, but was open for our arrival. Here's a few views of our stop, they had a painting on display of Cresco station with two Lackawanna trains meeting here in 1945. Plus a Lackawanna locomotive bell on display with numerous local and railroad related items. The train-shed and gate shanty are recent additions.
Leaving Cresco witness the former LV and EL Alco's working there way up Devils Hole grade, I think it reaches 1.5% here, but someone can correct me. Needless to say we are in "Pusher" country! Just west of Devils Hole I spotted this 40' boxcar just off the track, looks like it was used for storage. Anyone know its heritage? Was this DL&W or EL that placed it there? Looks like a stove pipe had been added at one end. The rusted spur is the lead into the Tobyhanna Army Depot. Another former DL&W tower, then Moscow Pa. at dusk. A few images of the bridges that cross the Lackawanna (One the topic from this Month's calender) and passing through Nay Aug tunnel and arrival at Scranton with views of the station and Mattes Street tower, and the former EL C-425 2452 was still paused in the yard with the westbound freight train at sunset. Again the train was spotted on the Diamond Branch for unloading. Hope you enjoyed a sample of riding the "Pocono Express"
Sunday, the ELDCPS trip was a well run and enjoyable day riding the rails through the Pocono's!

Todd ~
