Subject: Telegraph Sounder from Scranton Z Office

Forty or so years ago I bought this resonator and telegraph sounder at some kind of railroad sale... have no memories on specifics. The person from whom I purchased them told me they were from DL&W Scranton Z Office and had been removed "in the 1960s," and I penciled that information on the bottom of both pieces. The resonator was painted with some abysmal looking paint, so I stripped it back to bare wood... and there the project languished for four decades.

At last the project is ready to march forward and soon the sounder and her resonator will be pouring forth dots and dashes again. So the natural questions are arising:

1. When and where was the last use of Morse on the DL&W?
2. What portion of the Main Line did Z Office dispatch? (Washington NJ to Binghamton NY?)
3. When was Z closed? (At the EL merger?)
4. Wasn't Z Office located along the balcony area overlooking the waiting room in Scranton Station?
5. And why the use of a 20 ohm sounder? That was a rather odd resistance for working either open wire or "metalic circuits" carried in cable.

I would appreciate any information.
