Subject: The DL&W over the Poconos, today!
"dl3000.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1100x731 (24bit)

Hi folks,

Here are some photos that were taken last Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, by my
work colleague Frank Etzel. He has offered to share them for teh benefit
of the listers - I think they'll be of interest!

Frank followed the Delaware-Lackawanna's combined Mount Pocono grain
train and Slateford Jct. turn PT-98 out of Scranton, and captured some
wonderful Lackawanna-esque scenes

scranton.jpg shows the combined train, led by an all-Alco lashup -
C630-RS32-C636-C420, with the PT-98 power 60 grain cars down through the
train (a pair of black/yellow RS3s!), 18 empties and an RS11 shoving on
the back of that! The train is just beginning its start out of
Scranton - the station is just out of frame to the left.

midtrain.jpg shows the RS3s

helper.jpg shots the lone RS11 pusher - pushers, just like the days of
the DL&W and EL!

dl3000.jpg shows the train storming under a classic DL&W signal bridge
near the Elmhurst reservoir.

cresco.jpg shows the PT-98 (after it detached at Mount Pocono) sailing
downgrade past the restored Cresco station

gravelplace.jpg shows the PT-98 sailing past the long-abandoned Gravel
Place tower.

Note: Frank also shot video, and I will be putting that up shortly on
YouTube. The sound is incredible! :)
He says it reminded him of the days he saw EL Alcos chortling away!
Enjoy!

- Paul
