This Hunterdon County Democrat newsclipping shows a "50 years ago" story on the beginnings of what would later become the Black River & Western. No photos, but an interesting little story. The D&MM steam loco is of course the ex DL&W 565 which is now in Scranton.

One of Mr. Whitehead's sons (mentioned as installing the tracks on the former Rockaway Valley roadbed) is Dick Whitehead, who now 50 years later is a retired railroader (PRR-RDG-N&W-LV-ConRail-Amtrak) who some on this list know.
