Just ran across this news item in the September 17, 1883 issue of the Buffalo Morning Express. This Erie employee in East Buffalo Yard used a bit of horse-sense to get his job done. In my East Buffalo Yard article in the DIAMOND, I had a photo of brakemen using bicycles to get around the yard!
