Subject: Season's Greetings - Train In Photo
"Erie_Station_Goshen.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1024x739 (256c)

I was curious to see if I could figure out what train that might have been
in the December 1960 Erie-Lackawanna Magazine cover photo. I think it might
have been Train No. 2, THE ERIE LIMITED.

The photo was obviously taken after dark and probably of an eastbound train
since the stationhouse at Goshen was on the eastbound side. The cars in the
parking spaces indicate it might have been taken in the early evening. That
all works for the eastbound ERIE LIMITED which, in March 1960 when the
photo was taken, was due at Goshen at 5:31 PM. The smooth-sided passenger
car visible looks like it might be one of the heavyweight coaches Erie
converted to upgraded long-haul cars with reclining seats and
air-conditioning. That type of coach would have been assigned to the ERIE
LIMITED.

I'm attaching a Library of Congress photo of the Goshen station looking
west. I didn't find a date for the photo but given the automobiles present
I would guess sometime in the 1960s. I would bet the photographer who took
the snow photo was standing on the far end of the platform, in front of the
wooden pole.
