Subject: Dearborn Station - what might have been
"Chicago_Proposed_Station_1958.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1273x1660 (24bit)

This will be my first attempt at sharing a pic. Hopefully it comes through!

I found this article in our office, a copy of an article in the Chicago Daily News in 1958. This was a proposed super station to replace Central, Dearborn, LaSalle and Grand Central stations in Chicago. A former IC employee was discussing the Illinois Central's proposal for a new super station to replace the same four stations during the 1926 improvements and electrification of the suburban service today. I remembered we had this article from 1958 in the office wanting to do the same thing and dug it out. Unfortunately both projects never came to be. Chicago would have been vastly different today if either one had come to pass, especially the 1926 version.

My friend also reminded me that the 41st anniversary of the end of EL intercity passenger rail service is Monday. He was part of a group who rode one of the last Lake Cities for a short round trip to Huntington (at least he thinks it was Huntington - after all these years things tend to blur together!)
