This press release from the office of the Director of Communications of the Erie Lackawanna Historical & Technical Society: "Some of you, no doubt, may have seen evidence of the fact that a new historical society which will concentrate on the history of the Erie Lackawanna, Delaware, Lackawanna & Western and Erie is being formed. The rumor is true. A group of enthusiasts including modelers, former employees, historians and railfans have embarked on a bold new adventure in helping to define how a rail historical society will function in the an era of ubiquitous Internet access and modern information sharing technology, yet still retain the best attributes of a traditional society. Our mission is: * To preserve the history of the constituent railroads in a way that has not been practical in the past and to make that information accessible to all of our members, no matter where they are geographically located. * To bring excellent value to our members made possible by progressive use of technology. * To encourage every member to participate to the best of their ability and to recognize members in a tangible way for their contributions for the betterment of all. * To have an open society where everyone's input is respected and where every member has an equal opportunity to serve the Society in the way they feel they are best able. We look forward to making our official announcement in the spring of this year. At that time, we will be open for accepting new members. We believe you will find ample reasons to join the ELH&TS once you see for yourself the quality of what will be afforded to you as a member. We hope you will find compelling reasons to join us in a new era of rail historical societies. We realize there will be many questions from those who are curious for more details. We will be posting a "Question & Answer" page on our web site in the near future and have provided a means to submit additional questions on our web site: www.elhts.org. We ask that you please use this means of submittal for any and all inquires, comments or questions you may have. We will endeavor to respond to submittals either personally or by updating the Question & Answers page as appropriate. Please be patient since this is a very busy time for us all."
