Erie tended to acquire CH's in 100 car lots, and looking at the EL Color Guide there are three series that may have received replacement Greenville roofs: EL 21100-21199, Greenville, 1946, 2-bay EL 21200-21299, Ralston Steel Car, 1949, 2-bay EL 21500-21599, Erie-Dunmore, 1951, 4-bay 100 3-bay CH's were built by Greenville in 1957 (the first Erie cars with roller bearings), but It's unlikely these would be getting new roofs after only 3 years. The Guide doesn't show any Erie CH conversions, although DL&W had some. Many former Lackawanna cement hoppers had the opposite procedure, losing their roofs when converted for ballast service. Hope this helps, although I'm sure someone on the list has more specific info for you. Paul B For the fourth group, I am at a loss to figure out what cars might have gotten roofs around the time of the EL merger. I thought first they could be open top hopper conversions, but I don't know of any such cars, so am left to wonder if some earlier Erie covered hoppers got new roofs. If there is a diagram that indicates such, I'm interested in what the number series is, as well as the number series of the original cars if the numbers are different.
