Paul,
As a dispatcher, you never would line signals up at Mt. View and not East Lincoln Park either for the siding or the main track. If the East end of Lincoln Park was clear (green) for a westbound move up the main track, then the worst you would get is a clear medium at Mt. View, I believe. Maybe an approach meduim if no signals were lined at the East end of Lincoln Park. Thing is I can't remember what was displayed westbound over the wye switch at Mt. View.
Here are my drawings of the area that I used when I was a dispatcher. There are no intermediate signals between Mt. View and Lincoln Park, just home signals (dispatcher controlled).

Rich,
I believe there were no intermediate signals between Mt. View and East
Lincoln Park, correct? If so, then the Mountain View westbound signal
was also an approach for East Lincoln Park, correct?
Based on your statement, then, you would never see a green aspect on
either the middle or lower signal? The best possible aspect was a yellow
bulb? (i.e., a westbound heading onto the Boonton Line [completely
unoccupied] would receive a Red-Red-Yellow?
