I received the latest issue of the Railroad Station Historical Society's "The
Bulletin" yesterday. The highlight of the issue is the first in a series of
articles entitled "Ed Weber's Look At The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western In
The 1950's" by John C. Dahl. It includes numerous photos taken by Ed Weber and
Thomas T. Taber III.

The first paragraph of the article describes the origin of most of the photos:
"Spanning a several year period in the 1950's, a structure study conducted by
Railroad Station Historical Society member Ed Weber along with his good friend
Thomas T. Taber III, documented many of the then still standing stations,
significant bridges and towers of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad.
Within a few years the "Lackawanna" soon was to become a fallen flag when it
merged with its one time rival, the Erie Railroad."

This first issue starts in Buffalo (John C. Dahl lives in the area) at the
DL&W Terminal and works its way to East Buffalo Yard. It includes several
photos with views that I have never seen before. The article is well written
and informative and if this is an example of what we can expect in future
articles, the series will be a "must have" for Lackawanna fans.

I have included (with permission) a few "teasers" with captions scanned from
the article. In page order: a view of the majestic stairway in DL&W Terminal,
a view of the train gate concourse in the terminal, a view of the Buffalo
River drawbridge next to Republic Steel and a view of East Buffalo Tower at
East Buffalo Yard. As an aside, the Western New York Railway Historical
Society has the model board from the Buffalo River drawbridge on display at
the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

Society dues are only $15.00 per year and include six issues of The Bulletin,
how about that for value! I highly recommend joining the RSHS. The society's
website is at http://www.rrshs.org/
