In A-162.jpg, the Olean depot shot, there are two towers visible. The near
tower, at the end of the depot platform, displays the X call sign placard. My
question is what was the call sign for the tower at the Pennsy diamonds, which
was also called X tower, at least in its later years. A June 1932 Sanborn map
shows a small building located about where the near tower is at North Union
Street labeled "GATE HO." I know there have been interlocking tower style
buildings occasionally used as crossing gate houses at other locations, I
think we recently saw one in one of Pat's photo batches, but why would this
one be marked X with a placard if it was only a gate house? Could the the near
tower have had anything to do with the adjacent Pennsy interchange yard?

Attached is a 1932 Sanborn map snippet to better illustrate the above.
