Subject: Interiors of the Tavern-Lounge cars
"MNCR_1_observation_end_looking_forward-PRT.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1886x1305 (24bit)

As part of my recent scanning spree, I came across this set of images I took
on a Metro-North fan trip.

The trip wasn't publicized that much in the railfan press, as it was
sponsored by Westchester County and designed for "civilians." However, they
did note that they had two observation cars (gee, I wondered what THOSE
could be?) that you could ride for a small upcharge ($3 if I remember
correctly). The motive power for this trip was a pair of FL9 diesels
repainted into New York Central lightning stripes (!!!) - sure, the NYC
never had these, but they still looked nice in this paint.

What I was most interested was getting inside those "observation cars" - the
former DL&W/EL Phoebe Snow tavern-lounge cars. We pretty much had free reign
on those cars, so I made sure I photographed as much of them as I could,
right down to little details like the interior colors and seating.

Now, does anyone know much Metro-North changed the interiors? Are the booth
seats original? Did they repaint the original maroon on the hallway walls?
Sadly, the exterior views show the glass wall that replaced the original
stainless steel doors, but otherwise the cars look much the same.

Enjoy the views!

- Paul
