"Valley_Camp.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1524x698 (24bit)

List, several prior posts discussed the lake freighter VALLEY CAMP. In
searching our files at the Lower Lakes Marine Historical Society, I found
two photos, both undated. One shows her original design and the other
shows her conversion to a self-unloader, probably in the early 60's.

Here is some info on her:
VALLEY CAMP , (St. S.), 1955 , Official No. U215518 , ex LOUIS W. HILL,

Steam screw LOUIS W. HILL.* U. S. No. 215518. Of 7038 gross tons.
Built Lorain, O., 1917. Length 525.0 x 58.0 x 31.0
* Renamed VALLEY CAMP - U. S. - 1955

>"Hi Todd,
>According to Thomas Taber's Book on the DL&W in the 20th Century the last
>coal ship to dock in Oswego at the coal dump was the "Valley Camp" on
>12/7/63. The coal dumper was dismantled shortly after that. I seem to recall
>someone, maybe Walt Smith, telling me that there was an extra coal train run
>a year or two after that but it seems that the coal traffic to Oswego ended
