Subject: Model/Casting of US&S Electropneumatic Switch Machines Used by DL&W/EL
"EP_Switch_Machine_PM_1963.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1024x661 (24bit)

For some time I have been looking for a model/casting of the Union Switch & Signal Company's A-5 Electropneumatic Switch Machine which was used extensively on the DL&W and EL. It was used at virtually all DL&W/EL interlocking plants, including Hoboken, Summit and Port Morris to name a few. Attached are two photos that shows the switch machine (the rectangular device with cylindrical ends) and CP valve (the tank-like vertical cylindrical object).

I recently noticed on the Espee forum that the "Irish Tracklayer" is planning on producing castings of the US&S EP switch machines based on an Southern Pacific installation. The switch machines are the same, though the CP valve is slightly different. I contacted John Houlihan (The Irish Tracklayer) and he would be willing to do a special design and mold for the DL&W/EL prototype CP valve for $300. John's casting are brass, hence the higher cost for the design and mold. He doesn't have final pricing yet for the actual castings, but should within a month. Here is the link to John's web site to see his range of products: http://www.irishtracklayer.com/

Anyone interested in HO versions of this important trackside detail and willing to share the cost of the design and mold work equally, please contact me off-list.
