Here are three shots of the C&S that I took around 1964. On this occasion, I
took two younger cousins for a ride. As to why the men were standing, I
think the standard car was a bit tight for most adults. Also a seated
employee took away a seat from a customer. In any event, they did not travel
very fast; it would have been easy to hop off. Henry Becker (the one who
passed away around 1961) would frequently come out for the last ride of the
day and ride a "Pullman" - one of the cars with adult sized seats. He was a
huge Lackawanna fan and I remember him sitting on the bench at Denville just
train watching like the rest of us. If I remember correctly, they asked for
your address when you purchased a ticket with the hope that you would sign
up for home delivery of milk. It was certainly was great day out for kids of
all ages.

Not entirely sure. It was more about the kids I think. Standing up would
have been dangerous. An adult doing it could have toppled the car. Also,
on passing sidings you could reach out and touch the passing train if you
really tried. It's been over 40 years, so I don't recall if they reviewed a
short "don't" list before leaving Centerville. (It might have been on the
ticket.) Don't know if insurance demanded it or if they had someone fall
out in the past. If it were possible to go back in time, without a doubt
this would be one of the places I would choose to visit.

Any lister know what was the purpose of the men standing up on the moving
train. Seems like a tough way to enforce seating discipline or ????
