John Redden

John and List,

In the 50's, there was an extreme shortage of boxcars for shipping flour. A
lot of flour was for export, over to starving Europe. The Buffalo Creek
Railroad complained constantly to the interchanging RRs in Buffalo about
them sending cars over that were in deplorable condition for shipping flour.
Hide cars frequently showed up. That's why the BCK bought their own fleet of
2,000 boxcars.

On the 20th I attached a short article from the Coopers International
Journal deploring the condition of boxcars for flour shipping. Cars which
previously shipped fertilizer and hides were used, as noted in the article.
Of course, this was 1911, but IIRC the same problem was run into in the 50's
on the BCK.
