List,

This isn't directly related to named cars, but I ran across this disturbing
article about Erie (and NYC) diners in WWII. The Utica Daily Press (and I'm
sure most papers) carried an article in their August 21, 1945 edition about
scams that were being pulled on servicemen. The stewards ran the scam and
divided the profits among the waiters, cooks and basket salesmen. A total of
119 dining personnel were arrested by the FBI.

Among the scams was taking crew hamburger, adding heavy doses of bread
crumbs, cutting the sizes down, and selling the "hamburgers" at full price
to servicemen, and then putting the cash in their pockets.
