(B1379-B1382) Mt Lakes.

With regard to the Mountain Lakes Station as shown in B1381, there is more detail that I would like to learn some day but I just stopped by the station to take a few photos and have formed an opinion.

Paul T suggested that the Midvale Road underpass might have come at a later date. I think not as the underpass is dated in concrete as 1912. The picture in question is dated 1913. I grant that it looks in the picture as though the road dead-ends but I think that must be just construction debris masking the bridge and a fence has not yet been added. The steps that come down to road level are in the same place today, but with three additional steps. The fence that does show in B1381 is probably a temporary affair during construction and the apparent handrails there for a soon to open set of stairs. I do not think there ever was a pedestrian underpass, no old photos I have ever seen hint at that. I am attaching several just taken photos plus the shots of the 1920 fire that Pat McKnight provided several years ago when I first learned of the that fire. One of my shots shows a section to the right that was not part of the 1913 station as seen in B1381. I would have to believe that was part of the 1920 reconstruction and not any recent addition. I hope to find out some day what, if any, were the differences between the original station and the reconstructed station. Pat, I hope I thanked you for the photos when you first provided them. If not, then Thank You.
