Attached is an article from the Wyoming County Times of February 11, 1943 discussing the scraping of brass bells on Erie locomotives and the substitute of steel bells. The weight difference was substantial: brass 181 lbs Vs steel 55 lbs. I had never heard of this. I wonder if these survived to the end of steam. Has anyone ever seen one.

The article has a photo but doesn't mention a manufacturer. It indicates 39 new bells were made up to that point.
