Subject: More Montville wreck photos...
"mv-cleanup.jpg" - image/jpeg, 104492 bytes, 900x605 (24bit)

Continuing, here are some more Montville, NJ wreck photos - all taken
Nov. 1966 by Bill Young. I still have a few more to scan.
I also have some Bill Young photos of ANOTHER wreck at Montville in
August 1965 - anyone know what happened then? (I'll scan those in as
well)

The photos:

Mv-1408: EL GP7 "passenger" unit 1408, seen from the grade crossing
just east of the Rt. 202 bridge. Wonder who those guys at the right are?
Mv-helicopter: Looking at the wreck scene from Changebridge Road. Note
the shiny silver helicopter about to land. This gives a better idea of
the magnitude of this image. That house at the far left has been
replaced by a new million-dollar mansion - common for NJ nowadays (!)
Mv-overview: Looing from that house's back yard, here's a grim view of
the carnage. The building and water tank in the background are part of
the Thermal Fused Quartz Co. plant.
MV-cleanup: Back to Changebridge Road, a good portion of the wreckage
has been cleaned up - looks like they drag the cars down from the ROW
and scrap 'em. Note the one bridge span is now gone.
MV-cranegon: A crane and former DL&W gon clean up cars just behind the
Thermal Fused Quartz. Plant - we're looking east.
Mv-twocrane: A pair of cranes re-rail an EL boxcar. Note the yellow
"yoke" on the boom of the near crane - this was wooden, and indicated a
crane assigned to the Hoboken Division (this allowed the crane to be
used under the wires - the wooden yoke insulated the boom)

Enjoy!
