I have been away for a while and thus have been delayed in sending in these
thoughts. Since I am also not a nitpicker when it comes to modeling,
unsolicited critiques are not among my usual and customary writing subjects.

But my eye does need the overall aesthetics of a locomotive to match its
prototype, particularly if the prototype is one I personally experienced.
And I did see plenty of K5s in real-life action and actually got mightily
scared by one at speed when I stood too close to the tracks at a grade
crossing. An essential component of K5 aesthetics is the tri-part running
board, which gave a final definition to the K5 as no-nonsense workhorse with
nothing on it in the service of prettiness. The end result was actually a
beautiful and wonderfully aesthetically-balanced locomotive.

By having a running board that reaches straight back to the cab, BLI has
destroyed an essential K5 aesthetic. To me, it is like painting an E8 in
Erie black and yellow and calling it a commuter PA -- just because it is
long and has six-wheel trucks. I attach photos comparing the BLI "K5" to an
accurate Samhongsa K5 in two similar poses.

My personal review re the BLI "K5"? It is a really neat Pacific that looks
really nice in its Erie clothes -- but it is most definitely not an Erie K5.
