List,

While we're on the subject of tugs, there is one correction I would like to make to my article in Vol 20, No. 2, 2006 of the DIAMOND. The article, "Erie's Union Dry Dock Company", on page 6 has an incorrect caption. Although I submitted it correctly twice to the editor, his staff insisted on changing the caption to read an Erie tug. The tug AMERICA is not an Erie tug, although it does have an "E" on the stack (I believe it was owned by a company out of Erie, PA). Neither the Erie nor the DL&W had a tug at Buffalo (or a car float), although both railroads had large fleets of lake freighters stationed here. (see attached photo)
