Chris and List,

The Genesee Valley Canal ran from Rochester to Olean (and beyond)
from the late 1830's to the mid 1870's. When it was abandoned, parts
of its ROW had track laid on it.

Attached is an excerpt from the booklet "Genesee Valley Canal" by
Mildred H. Anderson.I don't see any reference to Port Allegany but I'm
positive this is how it got the nomemclature "port".
