Subject: Erie Ltd in "Famous American Trains"
"John_B_Sweeney_EM.jpg" - application/octet-stream, 640x1000 (24bit)

I opened up a long forgotten book on the shelf, Famous American Trains by
Roger Reynolds (Grosset & Dunlap, 1934). The reading level is around junior
high. It was the childhood book of a college buddy who passed it along to
me. It has a chapter (3 pp) on the Erie Limited. There is one "dynamic"
shot of a K-5 over a four-track bridge that I tend to think is an
interesting creation.

The book highlights some 27 named trains and for about half of them mentions
railroad men associated with that train. For the Erie Limited, the spotlight
falls on Engineer John Bernard Sweeney and Conductor Samuel David Kiefer.
There is no text, just the captioned pictures. Do any of you have any oral
history about these Men of Erie and why the author would have selected them?
I vaguely remember seeing John Sweeney's photo in a loco cab.
